SAL Lab Research Assistant/ Field TechnicianPanthea Read

Undergraduate Student, B. Sc. Global Resource Systems- Agricultural Sciences, Resource Management, and Environmental Studies

Research Interests: I am most interested in studying resource management from an ecological perspective. I would like to know more about the impacts of agriculture on our soil and how to manage those impacts in ways that encourage efficiency and environmental awareness. I am also interested in how events like climate change affect soil microbial communities and nutrient cycling, particularly in cryosolic soils.

SAL Research: I have been working with the SAL lab since August of 2014. My primary role has been to contributing to the building of the Lower Fraser Valley Nutrient Database, by gathering crop and manure samples from Fraser Valley farms and analyzing them for nutrient content in the lab using spectroscopy.
